ABA Structure - EPIC Lotus review A HIGHLY INDIVIDUAL UNDERGROUND SOUND RISING FROM SPIRITUAL DEPTHS. Traveler, documentary filmmaker and musician Kenji Williams makes beautiful music aimed at the mind, body, and spirit. With tracks previously released through Flying Rhino and Bedrock, ABA Structure's sound could be described as progressive or trance. But Kenji steers clear of all the usual tricks on EPIC, employing electro beats, dynamic arrangements, sparse but devastatingly effective melodies, and flashes of emotional clarity, while Irina Mikhailova provides soulful, otherworldly vocals. On closer listen, Williams' original sound is more in tune with the great experimental techno of Dave Moufang, Russ Gabriel and the Black Dog. From the ambient skank of "Luna Dub" to the gorgeous tech-house of "Houseboats" and the deep breakbeats of "Yelo", Kenji unassumingly activates the imagination and takes us deep into a world of animated spirit. - Thomas Kelley Lotus Magazine #38 August-September 2002 issue |
